The company was founded in March 1966, as Gelatinas de Colombia Ltda. During the first five years, Atlantic Gelatin, a division of General Foods, supervised the plant’s facilities and technological processes.
Using the Batch Extraction technique, production began in 1967, with a production capacity of 500 tons of gelatin per year.
In 1970, the process was changed to continuous extraction.
Since the beginning, the company has been focused on export, initially solely to the United States.
In 1983, our corporate name was changed to Gelatinas de Colombia S.A.
In the 90s, continuous growth was sought after, with the progressive addition of new equipment, in search of greater production and substantial improvement of quality.
In 2000, our corporate name was changed to Gelco S.A. Since 2002 we have the ISO 9001, and HACCP certificates; as well as certificates BASC, Halal, Kosher, EDQM and AIB, obtained later.
In 2008, we acquired the gelatin plant that Kraft Brasil operated in Pedreira, which started its operation as Gelco Gelatinas Do Brasil Ltda., in April 2009. From the beginning of its operation, this plant has been continuously improving through the acquisition of new machinery as well as the bettering of the processes and equipment. These upgrades have allowed an increase in the efficiency of production and improved the quality of gelatin.
In 2012, our company name changed to Gelco S.A.S
Since 2015, Gelco has grown and signed with international customers in more than 30 countries and a production capacity of more than 4800 tons per year.
In 2016, we obtained the certification of our safety system with the FSSC 22000 standard.
